NBCSports.com, carrying an Associated Press report, said Jackson Koivun won the 3M Open on Sunday in Blaine, Minnesota, defeating world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler by three shots. Koivun, 21, closed with a 5-under 66 at TPC Twin Cities to finish at 25-under 259, setting a tournament scoring record in just his third start since turning professional.

According to the report, Koivun protected a three-stroke lead he built with a 61 on Saturday and played without a bogey for the second consecutive round despite 97-degree conditions. Scheffler made a late push with a 63 while playing five groups ahead, but Koivun’s steady final round kept him clear of the field.

Scheffler finished runner-up for the fourth time this season, with his only win of the year coming at The American Express in California, the AP reported. Hideki Matsuyama, Brian Harman, Chandler Phillips and Denny McCarthy shared third place at 20 under. Koivun, who helped Auburn win the NCAA championship last month, became the fourth rookie winner on the PGA Tour this season.

The victory also carried immediate postseason implications. NBCSports.com reported Koivun earned $1,584,000 and moved up 124 places in the FedEx Cup standings to 70th, the final playoff position, with two regular-season events left. His 25-under total surpassed the previous 3M Open mark of 24-under 260, set by Lee Hodges in 2023.
