What the report says

Jackie, a bald eagle in California who drew a large online audience through the Big Bear Eagle Nest Cam, has died after weeks of veterinary care, according to BBC World News. The bird was being treated by the Ojai Raptor Center after an attack by other eagles, and the rehabilitation group said she had also been dealing with underlying health problems that led to anaemia and weight loss.

The centre said her condition worsened despite intensive treatment and the work of veterinary staff and outside specialists. In a statement, Ojai Raptor Center said it was heartbroken by the loss and described caring for Jackie as a privilege. Her remains have been transferred to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, the centre said, while it continues to work with state and federal wildlife officials.

Jackie and her partner, Shadow, had been followed for years by viewers around the world through a livestream of their nest in Big Bear Valley. The Friends of Big Bear Valley, a nonprofit that runs the nest camera, says Jackie was first seen in the area after hatching in 2012 and that the pair had been mates since 2018. The story highlights the strong public interest that wildlife livestreams can generate, especially when familiar animals face health crises.
