Istiqama Officials Donate Shs5.6m to Mufti’s Karamoja Famine Relief Drive

Officials from the Istiqama Muslim Charitable Association in Oman have contributed $1,500, or about Shs5.6 million, to a relief drive led by Uganda’s Mufti, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, to help families affected by famine in Karamoja. According to Nile Post, the donation came after a courtesy visit to the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council headquarters in Old Kampala by Istiqama’s chief executive, Dr Saleh bin Sulaiman Al Zeheimi, and the head of its Uganda office, Sheikh Mohammed bin Saleh Al Harthy.

The article says the visit was connected to an earlier appeal from Mubaje for support to communities in the Karamoja sub-region, where prolonged drought has left people and livestock under pressure and increased the need for aid. During the meeting, Mubaje thanked the organization for responding to the crisis and described the assistance as a sign of Islamic brotherhood and solidarity.

Beyond the immediate famine response, the discussion also covered broader development work for underserved communities, including education and access to clean water. Mubaje pointed to Istiqama’s past support for schools, mosques and boreholes in Uganda, while the delegation said it would consider additional backing for education programs, borehole rehabilitation and other initiatives. The latest donation adds to continuing efforts by the UMSC and partners to raise help for vulnerable households in Karamoja.
