What the report says

An Israeli air strike hit a tent sheltering displaced Palestinians in Deir al-Balah in central Gaza on Monday, according to Al Jazeera’s report citing the Palestinian news agency Wafa. The strike, which occurred near al-Aqsa Hospital, killed at least one person and injured several others, adding to the civilian toll in the enclave.

Al Jazeera also reported that the Israeli army said on Telegram that it had targeted two people it described as militants in the Deir al-Balah area on Sunday night. In its statement, the military alleged that one of them, Muhammad Abdul Nasser Jaber Abu Asad, was a member of Hamas’s elite forces and had taken part in the October 7 attack on Israel. The army said the men were involved in efforts against Israeli forces and in rebuilding Hamas capabilities, and called the activity a breach of the ceasefire.

The strike came despite the US-brokered ceasefire meant to end the war in Gaza, as diplomatic efforts continue around Hamas disarmament and the withdrawal of Israeli troops. Al Jazeera said more killings were also reported elsewhere in Gaza over the weekend, including in Khan Younis and az-Zawayda.

The Palestinian Health Ministry said 1,288 Palestinians have been killed since the October 2025 ceasefire agreement. Al Jazeera said the overall death toll since the war began in October 2023 has reached 73,422, with 174,401 wounded.
