Israeli strike kills ‘newlywed’ woman in south Lebanon, wounds others

What the report says
An Israeli air strike in southern Lebanon killed a Lebanese woman and wounded several others in the town of Arab Salim, in the Nabatieh district, according to Al Jazeera, citing Lebanon’s health ministry and the state-run National News Agency. The reported toll included six wounded, among them a child, a woman and two elderly people. NNA said the woman who died had been married for 48 hours, and that her home was destroyed in the attack.
Lebanese security sources said the wider Nabatieh area was hit by at least 10 Israeli strikes, while NNA also reported artillery fire near Rashaf in the Bint Jbeil district. The Israeli military said it was responding to Hezbollah fire overnight and claimed it had struck Hezbollah weapon-storage sites. Al Jazeera’s Beirut correspondent said the strike hit a residential area and noted that Israeli forces have been increasing pressure in territory considered strategically important.
The report comes amid a period of reduced but still recurring violence in southern Lebanon. Israel has intensified attacks in recent days following earlier strikes that Lebanon said killed 11 people, including children. The conflict along the Israel-Lebanon frontier has been tied to wider regional tensions since the Gaza war began in 2023 and expanded after Hezbollah entered the fighting in support of Iran. The continued cross-border exchanges have also renewed discussion in Beirut about the June framework agreement that envisages an Israeli withdrawal, Lebanese army deployment and the disarmament of armed groups.
