Israeli forces turn Hebron homes into military posts amid lockdown

What the report says
Israeli forces have taken over Palestinian homes in Hebron, in the occupied West Bank, and turned them into temporary military barracks and observation posts during an ongoing lockdown, according to Al Jazeera’s reporting based on the Palestinian news agency Wafa. The measures came as the Israeli military carried out a large operation in southern Hebron following an attack on an army reserve base that killed two Israeli soldiers and the two alleged attackers, according to the article.
The report says residents were removed from homes in areas including Khallat Manna and Dahiyat al-Zaytoun, while broader raids, road closures and movement restrictions continued across Hebron. The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society said at least 47 Palestinians had been detained in Hebron since Friday and that 293 families, or about 2,200 people, had been forcibly displaced. The group said those affected included infants, pregnant women, people with disabilities, older adults and people with chronic illnesses.
Al Jazeera also reported that settlers began setting up two new outposts on Palestinian-owned land near Yatta, south of Hebron. In addition, Israeli forces kept roads and entrances closed in the Bethlehem area for a third day and used tear gas and stun grenades near Tuqu, according to Wafa. The developments add to already high tensions in the occupied West Bank, where raids, closures and settler activity have intensified in recent days.
