What the report says

An Israeli drone strike in southwestern Syria injured several people on Saturday, according to Syria’s foreign ministry and state-linked media, in the latest incident reported in an area that has seen frequent Israeli military activity. The strike hit a small truck near Beit Jinn, in the western Damascus countryside, an area close to Jabal al-Sheikh and about 55 km from Damascus.

Syria said the drone targeted a civilian vehicle and condemned the attack as a violation of its sovereignty and international law. A Syrian media report said one man was wounded after the truck was struck on the road between the town and nearby farmland. A medical source quoted by Al Jazeera said one injured person was in stable condition with a hand injury. Local residents also reported drone activity over the area in the days before the strike.

The Israeli military confirmed carrying out the strike, saying it had targeted a person it described as a terrorist involved in attacks in preparation and posing an immediate threat. Al Jazeera’s reporting said the attack came amid near-daily Israeli incursions in southern Syria, where Israel has often framed its actions as security-related.

The incident matters because it underscores the continuing tension along Syria’s south and the broader dispute over Israeli operations inside Syrian territory. Separately, a Syrian diplomatic source told Al Jazeera that Damascus is still pursuing de-escalation and a security arrangement with Israel through US mediation.
