What the report says

Al Jazeera reported on Nov. 4, 2026, that the Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor says Israeli travel limits and medical-evacuation restrictions are blocking hundreds of child amputees in Gaza from getting treatment outside the territory. The group said 1,134 children in Gaza have lost limbs because of Israeli attacks and that many are not receiving the longer-term care, surgeries and rehabilitation they need.

The report cited World Health Organization figures showing that 2,300 amputees in Gaza, including children and adults, were assessed for treatment between September 2024 and May 2026, but only 500 received permanent prosthetics. Euro-Med also said Gaza lacks enough certified prosthetics and orthotics professionals, as well as equipment to make, fit and adjust artificial limbs.

The organisation warned that delays in follow-up care and prosthetic adjustments could lead to lasting disability, pain and mobility problems, especially as children grow. It also said restrictions on imports and entry permits have made it harder to bring in prosthetic-making supplies and bring in specialist teams to train local workers.

Al Jazeera’s report included testimony from one mother, who said her 11-year-old son was badly injured in an Israeli artillery strike and now needs surgery and a prosthetic limb abroad, but cannot leave through the closed crossings. The allegations add to wider concern from aid groups and the WHO about Gaza’s collapsing medical system and the long-term impact of the war on children.
