What the report says

STAT reported in its July 21, 2026 Health Tech newsletter that Epic Systems is facing questions about a possible wave of senior departures after the previously reported exit of Sumit Rana, the company president who had been viewed as a likely successor to longtime CEO Judy Faulkner. STAT noted that Rana had told reporter Brittany Trang last summer that no single person should be so central that the company could not continue to thrive without them.

According to STAT, Seth Hain, a senior vice president in research and development, is leaving Epic, based on a source familiar with the matter. The newsletter also said Dave Fuhrmann, another research leader, is rumored to be departing. Epic told STAT it does not comment on personnel matters, and both Hain and Fuhrmann declined to comment. STAT described Hain as a prominent public figure in Epic’s artificial intelligence work and Fuhrmann as involved in interoperability efforts.

The possible changes are notable because Epic is one of the most influential health technology vendors in the U.S., with its electronic health record systems used by many hospitals and health systems. Leadership shifts involving AI and interoperability could draw attention from customers and competitors at a time when health systems are evaluating administrative AI tools and data-sharing capabilities.

The same STAT newsletter also reported broader health tech developments, including Brian Manning becoming CEO of ambient AI company Nabla, new executive appointments at Aledade and TytoCare, and a STAT investigation into former LifeMD employees’ concerns about GLP-1 telehealth care, which LifeMD denied.
