Wired reports that Range Rover has confirmed a new fifth model, the Range Rover GT, marking a shift beyond its established SUV lineup. The vehicle is described as an all-electric grand tourer based on JLR’s Electrified Modular Architecture, or EMA, with camouflaged prototypes still in final testing. Range Rover has not yet released pricing, battery range or power figures, but Wired says a full reveal is expected later this year and the car is due to reach roads in 2027.

The GT’s low, coupé-like shape and luxury touring brief invite comparison with Jaguar’s forthcoming Type 01, another electric grand tourer from the same parent company, JLR. Range Rover’s Martin Limpert characterized the model as the brand’s most car-like vehicle yet, while emphasizing long-distance refinement, electric performance and continued all-terrain ability. A Range Rover spokesperson told Wired the two brands remain distinct, describing the Jaguar as a four-door luxury GT and the Range Rover as a new interpretation of the Range Rover formula.

Wired notes that the GT will be built at JLR’s Halewood plant in the UK and will be the first vehicle on the EMA platform, which is also set to support future midsize electric models. The larger Range Rover Electric and Jaguar Type 01 will use JLR’s Modular Longitudinal Architecture instead. The report says the Range Rover GT will launch first as an EV, with hybrid versions planned later in its lifecycle.

The significance for JLR is brand positioning: Range Rover is entering a body style more closely associated with Jaguar just as Jaguar is preparing an electric-only relaunch.
