What the report says

Al Jazeera reported that Iran said it carried out a drone attack on United States military assets at Kuwait’s Ahmad Al-Jaber airbase on Friday, describing the operation as retaliation for US strikes on Iran the previous day. Citing a statement carried by Iran’s semiofficial Tasnim news agency, the report said Iranian forces claimed to have targeted hangars, satellite communications systems and equipment warehouses. The US had not yet publicly responded in the article, and Al Jazeera said confirmed information on casualties or damage was not available.

The reported Kuwait strike followed US Central Command attacks on dozens of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targets in Iran overnight Wednesday, according to Al Jazeera. The outlet said three people were killed when a residential building on Qeshm island was hit, with explosions also reported in Fars province, Kish island, Bushehr, Khuzestan and Hormozgan. Iran’s IRGC had vowed retaliation. Kuwait’s Defence Ministry separately said Thursday that one worker was killed in an Iranian attack on a building linked to a Chinese company in northern Kuwait; China later said no Chinese citizens were affected.

Al Jazeera framed the developments as part of growing concern that the conflict is spreading across the region. The report cited recent or alleged incidents involving Jordan, Iraq, Egypt, Red Sea shipping and the Caspian Sea, including Jordan saying it intercepted five missiles launched from Iran and Egypt confirming a drone caused a fire at Damietta port. Iran denied involvement in the Egypt incident.

Analysts quoted by Al Jazeera said Iran may be broadening the geography of its strikes to deter further US attacks, while warning that tit-for-tat military action could continue alongside diplomatic efforts involving Gulf states.
