CBS News reported that the Pentagon has identified a third U.S. soldier believed to have been killed in Iranian strikes on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, as the conflict with Iran continued to widen across the region. The service member was named as Sgt. Angel S. Rampersad, 28, of Ozone Park, New York. CBS said three American soldiers were killed in the Jordan attack, while another U.S. soldier died in Iraq during the controlled detonation of an Iranian drone. The report said 18 American service members are believed to have been killed since the war began.

The developments came as U.S. Central Command announced an 11th straight night of strikes on Iran on July 21. CENTCOM said the operation targeted aircraft hangars, drone storage sites and operations centers, describing the strikes as an effort to reduce Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. CBS also reported that Iran said it had targeted U.S. assets in Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan, as well as a vessel in the strait.

The conflict is drawing increased scrutiny in Washington. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told lawmakers the war has cost about $37.5 billion, though CBS cited sources familiar with the matter who said the total could be significantly higher because some expenses, including repairs or construction at damaged U.S. bases, were not included in that estimate.

CBS also reported that President Trump was scheduled to attend a dignified transfer at Dover Air Force Base for service members killed in recent Iranian strikes. Separately, Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned in Manila that Iranian control over the Strait of Hormuz would create a dangerous precedent for global shipping and freedom of navigation.
