Iran commander sets out five conditions for regional security

What the report says
Iran’s armed forces chief has outlined five conditions he says are needed for lasting regional security, according to Al Jazeera, as Qatar continues to mediate indirect contacts between Washington and Tehran. The proposal, reported by Tasnim news agency, calls for an end to hostilities across the region, including in Lebanon and Gaza, along with the full lifting of sanctions, unfreezing of Iranian assets and war reparations.
The plan also seeks recognition of Iran’s sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz and guarantees against future aggression within a regional security framework for West Asia. The development comes amid heightened tension after reported US strikes on Qeshm Island and as both sides weigh whether diplomacy can resume after months of conflict and confrontation.
Qatar’s foreign ministry said a delegation met Iranian officials in Tehran for more than three hours on Monday, and that both sides are now reviewing Doha’s proposal. The ministry described itself as hopeful, while stressing that any further escalation could complicate talks. Al Jazeera’s reporting said Qatar’s current effort is focused on building a framework to restart negotiations rather than closing a peace deal.
The broader backdrop includes ongoing military and political pressure, with Iranian officials accusing the US of striking while diplomacy was underway and US officials describing the latest action as limited and defensive. The talks matter because they could help prevent a wider regional conflict and shape future security arrangements in the Gulf and beyond.
