Ipswich sign Diop from Fulham

Nile Post, carrying a BBC Sport report, says Ipswich Town have completed the signing of Morocco defender Issa Diop from Fulham for an undisclosed fee. The 29-year-old has agreed a contract running until the summer of 2030, adding defensive depth to a squad that the report notes was promoted from the Championship last season.

Diop arrives with substantial Premier League experience, having made 173 top-flight appearances across spells with Fulham and West Ham. The report says he also featured five times for Morocco as they reached the World Cup quarter-finals. Diop was quoted as saying he was excited about the move and believed Ipswich was the right next step in his career.

His club career in England began after West Ham signed him from Toulouse in 2018. He spent four seasons with the Hammers before joining Fulham in a £15m move in 2022. At Fulham, he made 96 appearances in all competitions, although the report says he started only eight Premier League matches last season.

The transfer is presented as part of a busy Ipswich recruitment drive. Diop is described as the club’s sixth signing of the summer, following Ghana winger Abdul Fatawu from Leicester for £20m, striker Emersonn from Toulouse for a club-record fee of about £26m, permanent deals for Cedric Kipre and Chuba Akpom after loan spells, and goalkeeper Kayne van Oevelen from FC Volendam.
