IPOD Council Recommends Admission of PFF

The Inter-Party Organisation for Dialogue (IPOD) governing council has unanimously recommended that the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) be admitted to the platform, according to Nile Post. The decision moves the opposition party closer to formal membership, with final confirmation expected at IPOD’s next summit.

Nile Post reports that PFF became eligible after winning two seats in Uganda’s January 2026 general elections, which made it a parliamentary party. Its entry had been delayed by disagreements over the conditions for joining IPOD and over the issues the party wanted included on the summit agenda.

IPOD executive director Lawrence Sserwambala said the council had considered PFF’s expression of interest and written to the party outlining the next steps. He said admission remains the responsibility of the summit, while the council prepares the agenda. PFF national chairperson Wasswa Birigwa said the party wanted discussion of matters including the detention of some of its leaders, the exile of opposition figures and what it sees as state action against PFF members.

The report places the move in a broader effort by parliamentary parties to join IPOD, a dialogue forum that also carries relevance for access to state funding under changes to the Political Parties and Organisations Act. The next stage is for IPOD’s secretaries general to consult party leaders and set a date for the summit.
