What the report says

MacRumors reports that Utah may be moving closer to supporting driver’s licenses and state IDs in Apple Wallet for iPhone and Apple Watch. The site said it found references to a Utah ID in Apple’s backend, which it interpreted as a sign that work on the feature is progressing. Apple has not announced a launch date in the supplied report.

Utah already provides a mobile driver’s license through a separate app, but MacRumors notes that the state does not yet offer Apple Wallet support. According to the report, Utah’s mobile driver’s license FAQ still describes Wallet integration as being in the early planning stage, though MacRumors cautions that the page may not reflect current progress. The same state guidance says existing users of Utah’s mobile ID app would be able to add the credential to Apple Wallet once the option becomes available.

The development matters because Apple first named Utah in 2021 among the early states expected to adopt Wallet-based IDs, but the feature has not launched there. MacRumors lists Connecticut, Kentucky, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Virginia as other states still planning support, while several states and Puerto Rico already allow IDs or licenses in Apple Wallet.

Apple Wallet IDs can be used at selected TSA checkpoints in the United States, and MacRumors says they are also accepted by some businesses and within certain apps for identity checks tied to services or purchases. Separately, the report notes that iPhone users in states without Wallet license support can add a U.S. passport through Apple’s iOS 26 Digital ID feature.
