9to5Mac reported that Apple is expected to release iOS 26.6 for iPhone users next week, following the release candidate build sent earlier this week to developers and public beta testers. The outlet said the update could arrive as soon as Monday, July 27, likely alongside related software updates such as macOS Tahoe 26.6, though Apple had not yet published the final public release at the time of the report.

According to 9to5Mac’s account of Apple’s release notes, iOS 26.6 is primarily a maintenance update rather than a feature-heavy release. It is set to include bug fixes, security improvements and changes to prepare the iPhone’s Spotlight index for iOS 27. Apple is expected to provide more detail on the security contents when the update ships publicly.

The Spotlight preparation is the notable change because iOS 27, due in the fall, is expected to bring a significant redesign of Apple’s system search experience. 9to5Mac said early iOS 27 beta users found Spotlight indexing could take a long time, in some cases around a week or more, so beginning that work in iOS 26.6 may reduce friction when users later upgrade.

The report also notes smaller changes, including a new warning for users who have reached the limit for blocked contacts. 9to5Mac said the build also contains code tied to an anti-theft feature, but cautioned that it may not be released until a later update.
