What the report says

Inter Milan have completed the signing of England full-back Djed Spence from Tottenham, with the BBC reporting that the 26-year-old has agreed a five-year contract. The Serie A champions are said to be paying about 30m euros, or £25.6m, for the defender. The move was announced on Saturday and follows Spence’s public farewell message to Spurs supporters earlier in the day.

According to the BBC, Spence was one of England’s notable performers at the 2026 World Cup, where he played in all eight matches as Thomas Tuchel’s team finished third. He made 44 appearances for Tottenham across all competitions last season, though the club had recently reinforced his position by securing Pedro Porro on a new deal and adding Andy Robertson from Liverpool. Tottenham manager Roberto de Zerbi had said in July that he wanted to persuade Spence to remain.

Spence joined Tottenham from Middlesbrough in 2022 for an initial £12.5m and went on to make 85 appearances for the north London side. His move to Inter is his second spell in Italy, after a six-month loan at Genoa in 2024. More broadly, the transfer fits a summer in which Inter have added another England player, John Stones, after his Manchester City contract ended.
