Intensified Russian strikes are tearing Kyiv apart, warns mayor

What the report says
Kyiv’s mayor, Vitaliy Klitschko, has warned that intensified Russian drone and missile attacks are putting Ukraine’s capital in a “very dramatic situation.” In remarks reported by BBC World News, he said strikes were hitting critical infrastructure, transport links, housing and other key sites, and described the city as facing a struggle for survival. His comments came after Kyiv’s defence council held an emergency meeting with military, security, emergency and police officials.
The latest attacks damaged the Pivdennyi, or Southern, bridge, one of the city’s main crossings over the Dnipro River. Traffic on the bridge was suspended after repeated strikes, and restrictions were also placed on Kyiv’s other major bridges, causing widespread disruption and delays. BBC World News also reported that recent attacks on data centres have led to internet outages in the capital.
The article said one person was killed in Kyiv when a residential building was hit overnight, according to Ukraine’s state emergencies service. Klitschko said Russia appeared to be trying to spread panic, while stressing that the city would endure with collective effort. The reporting places the latest strikes within a broader pattern of Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy and infrastructure sites, especially as winter approaches, a tactic that has been seen since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022.
