Wccftech reports that Intel is adding support for 8000 MT/s DDR5 RDIMMs on parts of its Xeon 6 server CPU lineup, positioning the update as a data-center memory upgrade for AI and other bandwidth-heavy workloads. The report says Intel describes itself as first to market with this level of RDIMM support on Xeon 6, with the change delivering a 25% memory-speed increase compared with 6400 MT/s modules and up to 20% more total memory bandwidth.

According to the article, the 8000 MT/s RDIMM capability applies to select Xeon 6700P “Granite Rapids” and Xeon 6+ “Clearwater Forest” SKUs in 1DPC configurations. Wccftech says the feature will arrive through a UPLR release and BIOS update, with production availability targeted for August to September 2026. Intel’s cited measurements indicate a 3% to 6% performance improvement across a range of workloads, with larger benefits expected in applications constrained by memory bandwidth.

The report also looks ahead to Intel’s plans for second-generation MRDIMM memory. Wccftech says Gen 2 MRDIMMs are already in production and are expected to bring up to 8800 MT/s support to the Xeon 6900P “Granite Rapids” platform by the first quarter of 2027. Those modules are described as aimed at high-core-count systems, including 72- to 128-core platforms used for AI, analytics and high-performance computing.

The development matters because memory throughput is becoming a limiting factor in servers that must feed CPUs, accelerators and storage systems efficiently. Wccftech further reports that Intel expects MRDIMM speeds to rise in later generations, including targets of 12,800 MT/s next year and 17,600 MT/s around 2029-2030, though those longer-range figures remain roadmap expectations.
