Inside LIV Golf’s reaction to latest blow – and a new survival plan including three major changes - Today's Golfer

What the report says
Today's Golfer reported that uncertainty over LIV Golf’s future dominated the league’s UK event at JCB Golf & Country Club in Staffordshire after a seven-week break. The outlet said players and officials are awaiting clarity on funding, with LIV chief executive Scott O’Neil telling captains that potential investors have shown interest ahead of a September deadline. The report says LIV needs about $350 million to continue after expected withdrawal of support from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.
The article says doubts have also grown over the end of the current season. LIV’s New Orleans event was postponed in June, and Today's Golfer reported that the Team Championship planned for The Cardinal course at Saint John’s in Michigan may not take place, with a decision expected shortly. Martin Kaymer, captain of Cleeks GC, told the outlet he viewed the Michigan finale as highly unlikely and said players need the season completed and a plan for 2027.
A further setback, according to Today's Golfer, is the Asian Tour’s new global alliance with the PGA Tour and DP World Tour. LIV had previously used its Asian Tour relationship and the Saudi-backed International Series as a competitive pathway and schedule supplement. The report said some LIV figures had anticipated the move, while others at JCB appeared surprised.
Today's Golfer said O’Neil is pitching a revised “LIV 2.0” to investors. Reported options include a 10-event core schedule next season with $10 million purses, reduced from current $30 million events; possible non-payment for the lowest finishers, effectively introducing a cut; and equity for star players. The outlet also reported that some LIV players are exploring DP World Tour or feeder-tour options as contingency plans.
