Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin has sharply criticised Fifa president Gianni Infantino over a now-abandoned proposal to create a new company, Fifa Forward Enterprise, to manage commercial and ticketing rights for Fifa competitions and sell 21% to a private investment firm. Speaking on the Rest is Politics podcast, Ceferin said the idea was even worse than the European Super League plan, arguing that it would amount to football being sold off. He added that Uefa and several national associations opposed the move, and the proposal has since been dropped.

According to BBC Sport, the dispute has widened tensions between Fifa and European football bodies. Uefa has said it has lost confidence in Infantino, while the football associations of the home nations have also withdrawn support. Ceferin said he had not been consulted before learning of the plan through the media and suggested Infantino should remember his European background and past links to Uefa, where he worked for 16 years.

The BBC also reported that Infantino has been seeking backing from football officials and political figures around the world. Ceferin said he believes the FFE idea is dead. He also said he will not run for Fifa president in 2027, saying he prefers to remain at Uefa.

Ceferin separately criticised the handling of a red-card suspension for U.S. forward Folarin Balogun during the World Cup, calling it shocking that a suspension could be overturned after pressure from Donald Trump.
