INDYCAR Race At Nashville Postponed To Monday Due To Rain - FOX Sports

Fox Sports reported that INDYCAR’s race at Nashville Superspeedway in Tennessee was moved from Sunday to Monday after storms disrupted the planned start. The event had been scheduled to begin after Sunday’s World Cup Final broadcast on FOX, but lightning first delayed activity before rain arrived around 7 p.m. ET. Although the surface was close to dry by about 8:30 p.m., another round of heavy rain led series officials to call off the Sunday running.

The race was rescheduled for Monday at 3 p.m. ET on FOX. Fox Sports said INDYCAR later shortened the planned 300-lap distance to 225 laps because of the expected heat. FOX Weather’s forecast called for a temperature near 90 degrees, with conditions feeling closer to 102 degrees, raising the physical demands for drivers, pit crews and teams.

Kyle Kirkwood is set to start from the pole. Fox Sports noted that the Nashville race, normally listed at 399.5 miles, is typically the second-longest event on the INDYCAR schedule after the Indianapolis 500. The postponement is notable because INDYCAR often can continue in wet conditions on road and street circuits using rain tires, though oval racing generally requires a dry track. Fox Sports cited the 2018 Barber Motorsports Park event as the most recent INDYCAR race postponed by rain.

The delay may be less disruptive than usual because teams have the next two weekends off before the season resumes with a dense closing stretch of six races across five weekends. Fox also noted that Alex Palou, who grew up near Barcelona, watched Spain’s World Cup victory during the rain delay.
