Indian police launch New Delhi clampdown for Cockroach Party rally

What the report says
Indian authorities have tightened security in New Delhi ahead of a protest called by the youth-led Cockroach Janta Party, also known as CJP, after two of its activists were jailed for five days earlier this week. According to Al Jazeera, thousands of additional police were deployed in the capital on Friday, metal barricades were placed at key intersections, and Central Park was closed for what officials described as administrative reasons.
The rally was scheduled for the afternoon in Central Park, where CJP supporters were asked to gather to demand electoral reforms and the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The movement says the commissioner is responsible for large-scale voter list deletions and has accused election authorities of voter fraud. Authorities have said the removed names were meant to eliminate duplicate, deceased, and fraudulent entries.
The CJP, founded in May amid anger over leaked exam papers and weak job prospects, has become a channel for younger protesters frustrated by unemployment and broader political conditions under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The group has staged near-daily demonstrations in recent weeks and says the government has responded with heavy-handed policing. Al Jazeera reported that the standoff has intensified pressure on Modi’s government and drawn support from parts of the opposition.
