Indian Community to Host Diwali Food Festival

What the report says
The Indian Association of Uganda will host its annual Diwali Food Festival on Sunday, November 1, at Speke Resort Munyonyo, according to Nile Post. The event is being organised in partnership with the resort and is expected to bring together Ugandans, members of the Indian community and other guests for a day of food, cultural performances and family activities.
The newspaper reported that businessman Dr Sudhir Ruparelia is expected to host the celebration at the lakeside venue, while Paresh Mehta, chairman of the Indian Association of Uganda, will also attend. Organisers say the festival is open to the public and will showcase a range of Indian regional cuisines through food stalls, alongside music, entertainment and a children’s play area.
Nile Post said the programme will begin when gates open at 2:30pm, with a fireworks display planned for 8pm. Fireworks will also be sold at the venue. The event is designed to mark Diwali, widely known as the Festival of Lights, and to promote cultural exchange, friendship and unity among communities in Uganda.
The article places the festival within a broader pattern of annual celebrations that have become part of Uganda’s social calendar. More generally, Diwali is observed by millions around the world and is associated with themes of renewal, light and togetherness, which organisers say the festival seeks to reflect.
