What the report says

India and Pakistan will meet in the Asian Games men’s cricket gold medal match for the first time, after both sides won their semifinal games in the T20 tournament. Al Jazeera, citing Reuters, reported that India advanced by defeating Sri Lanka by 124 runs at Korogi Athletic Park, while Pakistan reached the final with a six-wicket win over Bangladesh in a shortened match.

India’s victory was built on a strong bowling display. Jasprit Bumrah struck early, and Sri Lanka collapsed to 45 all out in 9.5 overs after being set 170. India’s batting was led by Ishan Kishan’s unbeaten 80, with support from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s 38. Pakistan’s semifinal was reduced to 13 overs per side because of a wet outfield, with Abdul Samad’s unbeaten 30 helping chase Bangladesh’s 112-run target.

The final carries added significance because India and Pakistan have rarely met in multilateral cricket events at this level, and the matchup has also drawn attention because of the political strain that has affected recent encounters between the two teams. Al Jazeera noted that previous India-Pakistan games in recent years have featured avoided handshakes and other signs of tension. India will be aiming for back-to-back men’s cricket titles at the Asian Games, while Pakistan are seeking their own gold medal breakthrough.
