India’s arms sale to Israel risks complicity in Gaza genocide, Amnesty says

Al Jazeera reports that Amnesty International has accused India of continuing to supply military goods to Israel despite what the rights group describes as a substantial risk that the items could be used in genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. The report, shared with Al Jazeera and published Thursday, says Amnesty reviewed 2,596 shipments of weapons, ammunition, parts and components sent from India to Israel since October 7, 2023, when Israel began its major offensive in Gaza after Hamas-led attacks.

According to Amnesty’s findings cited by Al Jazeera, Indian companies supplied hundreds of thousands of small-arms parts, explosive ordnance components and military vehicle parts to Israeli defence suppliers. The group said it relied on trade data and excluded shipments that appeared potentially intended for civilian use. Al Jazeera also said it had earlier obtained Indian customs export documents from 2024 showing arms-related shipments to Israeli manufacturers, including Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, IMI Systems and MCT Materials.

Amnesty Secretary-General Agnès Callamard said India had not properly regulated private arms exports in line with international law and had expanded defence cooperation with Israel. Al Jazeera notes that the International Court of Justice issued provisional measures in 2024 ordering Israel to prevent acts of genocide in Gaza; Israel has rejected genocide allegations in other proceedings and contexts.

The report comes against the backdrop of long-standing India-Israel defence ties. Al Jazeera cites SIPRI data showing India has been a major buyer of Israeli arms, while Israel has also been among India’s key arms export destinations. The article says the two governments signed a defence cooperation memorandum in November 2025 and have publicly emphasized deeper military, industrial and technological collaboration.
