Impis, Hima Cement strike Shs 250m sponsorship deal

What the report says
Hima Cement has entered a two-year sponsorship agreement with Impis Rugby Club worth Shs 250 million, in a deal that will see the Makerere-based team rebranded as Hima Impis. The announcement was made at the club’s home ground, the Graveyard, according to The Observer. The package includes Shs 150 million in direct cash support and Shs 100 million for infrastructure-related work, including pavilion renovation and media activations.
The sponsorship comes as Impis continue their return to Uganda’s top-flight rugby competition after what the report described as a strong campaign last season. The club recorded notable wins over established teams such as Heathens and Kobs, which appears to have helped raise its profile and attract corporate backing. Hima Cement’s marketing head, Philemon Mubiru, said the company was drawn to the club’s fan base and growth potential.
Impis vice patron Phillip Katumba called the agreement an important boost for one of Uganda’s older rugby clubs, saying it would help both performance and club development. Uganda Rugby Union secretary general Peter Odong also welcomed the deal, describing Impis as a key pathway for talent development and encouraging more companies to invest in the sport.
More broadly, the agreement reflects the growing role of sponsorship in Ugandan rugby, where clubs often rely on private support for facilities, competition costs and player development. The Observer reported that the partnership is intended to strengthen the club on and off the field.
