What the report says

Immigration officers in Uganda who were recently promoted to new ranks have been encouraged to pair their new responsibilities with professionalism, integrity, humility and teamwork. The message was delivered at a pipping ceremony at the Ministry of Internal Affairs headquarters in Kampala, where officers in the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control were formally decorated.

According to Nile Post, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Internal Affairs did not attend in person but sent his remarks through Chief Government Chemist Kepher Kateu Kuchana, who served as chief guest. In the message, the Permanent Secretary congratulated the officers and said promotion should be understood as a reminder to meet higher ethical standards and stronger accountability while serving the public.

Kuchana also stressed that protecting national security depends on cooperation across the ministry’s directorates and on keeping the needs of ordinary Ugandans at the center of public service. Speaking for the promoted officers, Assistant Commissioner of Immigration Jabel Male said they would justify the confidence placed in them through discipline, commitment and faithful observance of public service rules.

The ceremony was attended by senior ministry officials, including the Director of Citizenship and Immigration Control and commissioners of immigration, along with family members and invited guests. The event highlights the emphasis Uganda’s immigration authorities are placing on conduct and coordination as officers take on greater leadership roles.
