IGG Warns Wakiso Officials Against Corruption and Misuse of Public Funds

What the report says
The Inspectorate of Government has cautioned public servants in Wakiso District against corruption, embezzlement, fraud and poor handling of public funds. According to Nile Post, the warning was delivered during a meeting between the IGG’s office and government employees in Wakiso as part of a wider effort to promote accountability, transparency and proper financial management in public institutions.
The IGG official speaking at the engagement, Charles Enyuk, said misconduct involving public money can disrupt government operations, weaken service delivery and expose officials to investigation, arrest and prosecution. He also urged public workers to understand the laws and administrative procedures that govern their duties, saying some officials run into trouble because of weak financial controls or limited knowledge of the rules.
Ssalongo Achilles Kiwanuka, assistant to the Wakiso district chief administrative officer for personnel and administration, said the IGG is carrying out a nationwide education campaign for public servants. He added that officials must ensure resources for public projects are used as intended and handled transparently. He noted that residents judge government by visible results such as roads, markets and other local projects, making accountability central to public trust.
The report says the IGG also reaffirmed its intention to inspect government activities and projects in Wakiso to detect irregularities and protect public resources. More broadly, anti-corruption watchdogs in Uganda often combine enforcement with public education, though this article focuses on Wakiso and does not give details of any specific case or investigation.
