Iganga PLU leaders endorse Muhoozi Kainerugaba for 2031 presidency

Local council leaders from across Uganda’s Busoga sub-region have publicly endorsed General Muhoozi Kainerugaba for the 2031 presidency, according to Nile Post. The endorsement was made on September 29 at Iganga District headquarters during a meeting attended by leaders from the 11 districts in Busoga, as the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) continues broader mobilisation efforts.

The gathering featured praise for Kainerugaba’s leadership record, with several speakers pointing to his roles in the security sector and other public positions. The event was also attended by Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Minister Sanjay Tanna, who used the platform to warn against people allegedly exploiting the PLU name to demand money from civil servants. He also said the ruling National Resistance Movement should begin identifying a successor to President Yoweri Museveni, while urging young people not to be drawn into riots or political violence.

PLU officials said the organisation is working to build support ahead of the 2031 election cycle. Iganga PLU coordinator Denis Balondemu said local structures would volunteer to mobilise votes, while eastern regional coordinator Jackie Kimoiza said the group was aiming to collect more than 20 million signatures.
