I won FPL last season - here are my five best tips

What the report says
BBC Sport Football reports that Erik Ibsen, a 23-year-old Danish medical student, won Fantasy Premier League last season out of about 11 million players, despite being new to the game. In a BBC interview, he said his success came from doing his own research rather than following paid tips or social media influencers, and from keeping a steady, patient approach across the full 38-gameweek season.
Ibsen’s main advice for managers is to focus on consistency, budget balance and careful planning. He recommends finding low-cost “enablers” who deliver value while allowing the squad to include premium players, and he says assets who collect defensive contribution points can reduce the risk of very poor weeks. He also warns against selecting players simply because they are favourites from a fan perspective, arguing that fantasy managers need to separate club loyalty from team selection.
The reigning champion says Erling Haaland remains close to essential because of his scoring record and captaincy reliability, even with his high price tag. He also suggests saving transfers to use later as a kind of mini-wildcard, rather than making frequent reactive moves. Looking ahead to the new Premier League season, Ibsen says it is unusually hard to predict, but he sees potential value in Tottenham’s defence and expects strong attacking returns from Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool. BBC Sport notes that he is now aiming for a top-25,000 finish this season.
