I don’t need Kololo to prove myself — Chameleone

What the report says
Ugandan musician Jose Chameleone has pushed back against criticism over his decision to hold his December 4 concert at Lugogo Cricket Oval instead of the larger Kololo Independence Grounds. In remarks reported by Sqoop Uganda, he said the choice of venue should not be treated as a test of his relevance or success, and argued that artistes should be free to stage shows in spaces that fit their plans.
Chameleone’s comments come during a broader debate in Uganda’s entertainment scene about whether top artistes should be judged by the size of the venues they can fill. Kololo has recently become a prominent location for major outdoor concerts, but Chameleone said venue size should not be the main measure of an artiste’s standing. He also suggested that those who want performers to reach bigger stages should encourage them toward larger ambitions, including international venues.
He further defended the timing of the Lugogo show, saying the date was not rushed and that the venue had been booked months earlier. According to the interview, he chose December 4 after allowing other artistes to schedule their own concerts first. He also said fans supporting him include people traveling from outside Uganda and buying tickets from abroad, while telling critics unhappy with the venue choice not to attend.
