Hundreds Screened for Military Training in Ntungamo

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces has started screening shortlisted applicants in Ntungamo District as part of an ongoing recruitment exercise that will eventually send selected candidates to military training. According to Nile Post, the process is taking place at the district headquarters and is being overseen by Brigadier General James Kasule, with Team Nine spokesperson Major Edward Birungi describing the screening as one of the final verification stages.

The applicants are being checked on several eligibility requirements, including medical fitness, academic credentials, age, nationality and conduct. Officials are also comparing original academic documents with information submitted online, alongside background checks that draw on local recommendations to identify any criminal concerns or unresolved community issues.

Birungi said medical examinations are central because recruits must be physically able to handle the demands of service. The team is also confirming national identity documents and age before making final selections.

Nile Post reported that the recruitment exercise is meant to produce 119 candidates in total, including both professionals and regular-force recruits. Those who pass the screening will be forwarded to UPDF training schools. The process reflects the military’s standard effort to vet applicants before they enter formal training, where eligibility and reliability are typically assessed before enlistment decisions are finalized.
