What the report says

Hull City have added German forward Ilyas Ansah from Union Berlin on a five-year contract, according to BBC Sport Football. The move, reported on 12 April 2024, makes the Germany Under-21 international the club’s 13th signing of the summer as Hull continue to build for their return to the Premier League after a nine-year absence.

BBC Sport reported that the transfer fee is said to be 15 million euros, with a further 12 million euros in potential add-ons. Ansah, who is 6ft 4in and turns 22 in November, joined after a season in which he scored five goals in 36 appearances in all competitions for Union Berlin. He previously played for Paderborn.

The forward said he was excited by the chance to play in the Premier League and described the move as a major opportunity. For Hull, the signing adds another attacking option to a squad that has started their top-flight campaign positively, winning their first two matches back in the division.

BBC Sport also noted that Hull were close to another major addition, with a deal reportedly agreed for Everton midfielder Tim Iroegbunam. The Ansah transfer underlines the club’s aggressive recruitment strategy as they reshape the squad for Premier League football.
