Huawei Uganda launches Makerere ICT recruitment drive

Huawei Technologies Uganda has announced a campus recruitment drive at Makerere University as part of its ongoing effort to identify and support local ICT talent. The Independent Uganda reports that the event is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 7, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Makerere’s Main Building in Kampala.

According to the publisher, the programme is aimed at final-year students and recent graduates in ICT-related fields, including engineering, cybersecurity, software development, computer science and several other disciplines. It is being presented under the theme “The Sky Is the Limit” and the slogan “A Better U for a Better Uganda.” Huawei says the initiative is intended to help young people move from university into work in the technology sector.

The company linked the drive to its broader skills-development efforts in Uganda over the past 25 years. The Independent Uganda says these include initiatives such as the Huawei ICT Competition, Huawei ICT Academy, Seeds for the Future, the National ICT Job Fair and earlier campus recruitment programmes. Huawei says these efforts support digital inclusion, gender equality and the growth of Uganda’s ICT ecosystem.

Participants at the Makerere event are expected to meet Huawei executives and industry professionals, learn about internship and job opportunities, and hear from previous beneficiaries. Successful applicants will enter a development programme that includes mentorship, practical project exposure and technical training. In general, such recruitment drives reflect the growing competition among employers for digitally skilled graduates as Uganda expands its digital transformation agenda.
