What the report says

Fox Sports reported that INDYCAR’s Borchetta Bourbon Music City Grand Prix was moved from Sunday to Monday, July 20, after persistent rain and lightning disrupted plans at Nashville Superspeedway. The rescheduled race is set for a 3 p.m. ET green flag and will air on FOX, with streaming available through FOX One, FOXSports.com and the FOX Sports App.

According to the report, INDYCAR initially delayed the event Sunday because of lightning, then faced heavy rain around 7 p.m. ET and another storm wave about 8:30 p.m., leaving officials unable to complete the race that night. Fox Sports noted that this marked only the second INDYCAR rain postponement since 2018.

The event will be shorter than first planned. INDYCAR reduced the distance from 300 laps to 225 laps, or roughly 299 miles, with high heat expected Monday. The race is being held at Nashville Superspeedway in Lebanon, Tennessee, a 1.33-mile D-shaped concrete oval with 14 degrees of banking. Fox Sports said this is the 11th INDYCAR Series race at the venue, and the third there since 2008.

Kyle Kirkwood earned the pole on Saturday and is scheduled to start first. Championship leader Alex Palou enters the makeup race 56 points ahead of Kirkwood. The delay comes before a break in the INDYCAR schedule, with the series off for the next two weekends before closing the season with six races across five weekends.
