How My Family Spent $8,600 on a 6-Day Trip to Disney World, Universal - Business Insider
What the report says
Business Insider published a first-person travel cost breakdown by contributor Lisa Galek about a six-day Orlando vacation for her family of five, including visits to Universal Orlando and Walt Disney World. Galek reported that the trip totaled $8,620 before reimbursements and credits, with the largest costs coming from airfare, two Universal hotel rooms, and theme-park tickets.
According to the essay, the family flew from Cleveland to Orlando on Frontier Airlines for $1,451, choosing flights over a roughly 15.5-hour drive each way to preserve vacation time. They paid $84 for parking at Cleveland Hopkins Airport and relied on Uber in Florida rather than renting a car. Their biggest expense was $4,948 for a stay at Universal’s Terra Luna Resort and four-day park-to-park tickets covering Epic Universe, Universal Studios Florida, and Islands of Adventure. Because Terra Luna’s standard rooms fit up to four guests, the family booked two connecting rooms.
The family added one day at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, paying $926 for admission and $250 for Lightning Lane access. Food and drinks cost $767 across theme-park and hotel meals, while souvenir spending was kept to $37 because the children used their own money for additional purchases. Galek said the family skipped Universal Express Passes and still managed to ride every attraction at Epic Universe, with their longest wait reported at 45 minutes.
Business Insider reported that credit card travel reimbursements returned $1,920, reducing the final out-of-pocket cost to about $6,700. A booking promotion also provided $600 in Universal hotel dining credits, which helped cover meals at Terra Luna. The essay frames the trip as expensive but carefully planned, offering readers a practical example of how major Orlando theme-park costs can add up and where rewards or credits may offset them.
