How Equity Online for Business is helping Ugandan businesses bank smarter

What the report says
Equity Bank Uganda says it rolled out Equity Online for Business in April 2026 as a new internet banking platform aimed at helping companies manage finances more efficiently. In an interview published by The Observer, Immaculate Asiimwe, head of payments and channels at the bank, said the system was created after customers indicated the older EazzyBiz platform no longer matched changing business needs.
The platform is meant for SMEs, larger firms and corporate customers. According to the bank, it offers payroll processing, local and international transfers, statutory payments, supplier payments, real-time statements, multi-currency accounts and, for bigger organizations, Host-to-Host integration with accounting or ERP systems. It is available through both a web portal and a mobile app, and transactions can be approved remotely.
The bank said it migrated customers in phases, starting with active users of the old platform and providing training during the transition. It reported that roughly 70% of corporate customers and 35% of SME customers had signed up, with transaction volumes and values up about 60% compared with the previous system. Equity also said the platform includes layered security controls and role-based approvals to reduce fraud risks.
The bank said future upgrades under development include digital trade finance, loan applications and more personalized tools using machine learning. For businesses, the rollout reflects a wider push by banks in Uganda and across Africa to shift more day-to-day operations online and reduce reliance on branch-based banking.
