Fox Business reported that a new Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers report identifies health technology as the megatrend with the greatest potential to reshape human life by 2030. The IEEE Technology Megatrends 2030 Report, released Wednesday and reviewed exclusively by Fox Business, assessed five areas: artificial intelligence, energy, health and biotechnology, space technology, and robotics.

According to the article, IEEE experts ranked health technologies as the most potentially transformative, citing a shift from treating illness after it appears toward earlier detection, prevention and more personalized care. Dejan Milojicic, an IEEE fellow and chair of the IEEE Future Directions Committee Industry Advisory Board, told Fox Business that health technologies stand out for their possible benefits to humanity.

The report highlighted personalized medicine, genetic engineering and gene therapy, early disease diagnostics and biomarkers, molecular therapeutics, protein synthesis, and research into the foundations of life. Fox Business said IEEE gave the strongest marks to personalized medicine, gene-related therapies, and early diagnostics based on impact, likelihood of success, maturity and adoption.

The article also noted potential applications over the next five to 10 years, including reducing preventable chronic disease, improving clinical outcomes, supporting virtual nursing and intelligent monitoring for aging populations, and linking food systems with health through AI-enabled traceability and personalized nutrition. IEEE also identified barriers, including data privacy and security concerns and resistance from existing systems. Milojicic said trust, privacy and safety standards would be necessary for these technologies to be adopted responsibly.
