According to the report, the race averaged 43.328 kph, surpassing the previous record of 42.849 kph set in 2025, with the event also featuring the fastest Tour road stage, a record ascent of Alpe d’Huez and eight road stages ridden at more than 45 kph.

UAE Emirates-XRG, described as a $60 million-a-year squad, was joined by better-funded rivals including Lidl-Trek, Decathlon-CMA CGM and Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe, raising the overall level of resources, staffing and ambition in the peloton.

The broader context, as presented by Velo, is that modern Tour racing is being accelerated by nutrition, aerodynamics, equipment, recovery methods, altitude and heat preparation, and data-driven training. The report suggests those forces are likely to keep pushing average speeds higher.
