What the report says

Housing Finance Bank in Uganda has named Robert Kusiima Mugabe as Chief Operations Officer, according to Nile Post. The bank said the appointment is intended to support stronger operational efficiency, digital transformation and improved customer service as it continues to update its systems and delivery model.

Nile Post reported that Mugabe brings more than 18 years of banking experience, with work across operations, treasury, balance sheet management, risk governance, enterprise growth and digital transformation. He has already held senior roles inside Housing Finance Bank, including Head of Operations and, until recently, Acting Head of Treasury. The report also noted that he previously worked in other senior banking positions before joining the lender.

The bank said Mugabe’s background will help advance its broader transformation agenda, including automation and the expansion of digital financial services. In comments quoted by Nile Post, Mugabe said sustainable growth depends on strong systems, disciplined execution and a focus on customers.

Housing Finance Bank described the move as part of efforts to strengthen institutional resilience and maintain its role in housing finance and inclusive banking in Uganda. More broadly, the appointment reflects a wider trend in banking toward improving efficiency, technology adoption and customer experience, especially as competition and expectations continue to rise.
