Hon Nabbanja reveals why she ordered Nobat Events’ arrest

What the report says
Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja said she ordered the arrest of events promoter Norbert Twizire, widely known as Nobat Events, over allegations that he misused government-backed funds and money belonging to other promoters. According to Sqoop Uganda, the dispute involves Shs1 billion that was extended to the Kampala and Beyond United Music Promoters SACCO, as well as Shs31.9 million in savings and shares said to belong to fellow promoters.
Nabbanja said Twizire came to her office with a group during a meeting, after which the group and associates were allocated the funds. She later alleged that he used the money on his own, prompting other promoters to complain to her office. She said she then directed that he be arrested. The Prime Minister also said the government has a zero-tolerance stance on corruption and wants the money recovered.
The report adds that Nabbanja referred to concerns raised by Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs Balaam Barugahara, and said fellow promoters had approached her claiming Twizire had taken their money. She said her office helped them open a case. The article notes that Twizire and fellow promoter Twaha Mujabi appeared before Makindye Magistrates Court and were remanded to Luzira Prison, with the case set to return on October 26, 2026.
The allegations have drawn attention to how public funds meant to support music promoters were handled. The report says Twizire’s response was not included, and the claims have not yet been proven in court.
