Hon. Ambassador Adonia Ayebare Takes Over As Minister Of Foreign Affairs

What the report says
Hon. Ambassador Adonia Ayebare formally assumed office as Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs on Aug. 14, 2026, following his swearing-in at State House, Entebbe, the previous day, according to The Independent Uganda. He received the handover from Hon. Haruna Kasolo Kyeyune, who had been serving as acting foreign minister since June 22, 2026.
At the ministry handover, Kasolo welcomed Ayebare and pointed to his long diplomatic background. The article says Kasolo highlighted continuity in bilateral relations, consular work, and Uganda’s international commitments during the transition. He also cited the return of 1,030 Ugandans from South Africa as one of the acting minister’s notable achievements.
Ayebare, in his first remarks, thanked Kasolo for holding the post during the transition and said the ministry had maintained its functions. The report notes that he returns to Kampala after nine years as Uganda’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, where he represented the country in multilateral affairs and played a coordinating role during Uganda’s chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement.
The new minister set economic and commercial diplomacy as a central priority, directing Uganda’s missions abroad to align with national growth objectives, including investment promotion, export expansion and market access. The ministry says this approach is intended to support Uganda’s broader economic strategy and strengthen its trade and diplomatic reach.
