Hoima passes yet another CAF Confederation Cup hosting test despite defeat for home side Kitara

What the report says
Egypt’s Al Ahly defeated Uganda’s Kitara FC 2-1 in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round tie at Hoima City Stadium, according to The Independent Uganda. The match, played on Saturday evening in Hoima, drew a large crowd and served as another test of the new stadium’s ability to stage major continental fixtures.
Kitara took the lead in the first half through Gaddafi Wahab, who finished from a cross in the 30th minute. Al Ahly responded after the break, with Omar Al-Saai equalising in the 67th minute before Ahmed Sayed Zizo converted a penalty in the 79th minute to secure the comeback win for the Egyptian side.
The result gives Al Ahly a slender advantage heading into the return leg in Cairo on 25 October, where the teams will compete for a place in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage. For Kitara, the loss means they must produce a strong away result to stay alive in the competition.
Kitara coach Wasswa Bbosa said he remained optimistic and suggested the team could correct mistakes from the first meeting. The club reached this round after eliminating Somalia’s Mogadishu City FC in the previous stage, a tie also played in Hoima, which adds context to the venue’s growing role in hosting international football.
