Hoima High Court Sets November 13 for Ruling on City Woman MP Petition

What the report says
Hoima High Court has set November 13, 2026, to deliver judgment in an election petition challenging the victory of Asinansi Nyakato of the People’s Front for Freedom as Hoima City Woman MP. The case was filed by former National Resistance Movement candidate Princess Diana Jane Mugenyi, who wants the election nullified over alleged irregularities.
According to the court process reported by Nile Post, Nyakato won the January 15, 2026 poll with 17,142 votes, ahead of Mugenyi’s 15,197. The hearing began on October 1 and continued through October 8 before Justice Charles Kasibayo, with the parties presenting and cross-examining witnesses. Those who appeared included Mugenyi, Nyakato and Hoima City Returning Officer Obra Atamba.
Justice Kasibayo directed Mugenyi’s lawyers to file final submissions by October 19 and serve the respondents, who then have until October 28 to reply. Any rejoinders are due by November 2. The judgment is scheduled for 10 a.m. on November 13.
Mugenyi’s petition alleges ballot stuffing, voter bribery and manipulation of results, and seeks a fresh election. Her legal team said it was optimistic about the outcome, while Nyakato’s side said the evidence did not justify overturning the result. Nyakato also urged supporters to stay calm as they await the ruling.
