Historic first as POA Ugandan golf series lands Sunshine Development status

What the report says
Uganda’s Pearl of Africa Golf Series has been added to the Sunshine Development Tour, a move reported by The Independent Uganda as a first for the country’s golf scene. The development gives the series world ranking status under the Sunshine Development and Bet Tour framework, according to the publisher, and was announced at a press conference in Entebbe.
The next stop in the series is scheduled for Lakeside, Entebbe Club, from September 16 to 19. The article says the launch drew officials from the Pearl of Africa Tour and Sunshine Tour, along with sponsors. A Sunshine Tour representative said the event is expected to feature some of the continent’s leading players, while Uganda Golf Union Vice President Paul Rukundo called the inclusion a significant milestone for the sport locally.
The Independent Uganda reported that the 4-day tournament will carry total prize money of 70 million. Players from several African countries, including Kenya, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Zambia, South Africa, Tanzania, Nigeria, Cameroon and Ghana, are expected to compete, alongside Ugandan golfers.
More broadly, the new status could help raise the profile of Ugandan professional golf by linking it to an internationally recognized ranking pathway. The article also noted support from organizations including the Uganda Tourism Board, Exim Bank, Vivo Energy, Afromania, Aquafina and Case Hospital.
