Hincapie and Zubimendi injured in post-match training session

What the report says
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has said it was “far from ideal” that Piero Hincapie and Martin Zubimendi were injured during a post-match training session after Arsenal’s 2-1 Premier League win over Leeds. BBC Sport reported that the workout at the Emirates Stadium was planned for players who did not start, did not finish, or played only limited minutes in Saturday’s match, as part of Arteta’s usual approach to managing workload across a busy schedule.
According to the report, Ecuador defender Hincapie was carried off during the session, while Spain midfielder Zubimendi also picked up an injury. Arteta said both players would have further scans to determine the extent of the damage and how long they may be unavailable. He also suggested Hincapie’s ankle issue appeared more serious than Zubimendi’s.
Hincapie, 24, came on late against Leeds, while 27-year-old Zubimendi was an unused substitute. Both joined Arsenal last summer and have mainly featured from the bench this season. The injuries add to Arsenal’s short-term selection concerns ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League match against Lille, and highlight the risks clubs sometimes take in trying to keep squad players match fit during congested fixtures. BBC Sport also noted Arteta’s frustration at how the injuries unfolded, including concern about one player being carried off by goalkeeper Illan Meslier.
