High Court Changes Courtroom as Audio Clarity Issues Disrupt Besigye Treason Trial

The High Court in Kampala has shifted the treason trial of Dr Kizza Besigye and his aide Obeid Lutale to a different courtroom after audio clarity problems disrupted the hearing. According to Nile Post, judges and court officials moved proceedings to Courtroom Three so prosecutors could continue presenting audio and video material in the case.

The report says the court was listening to a two-hour-and-20-minute audio recording on Tuesday, following difficulties the previous day in hearing it clearly. Officials attributed the change to technical problems and poor-quality equipment in the original courtroom. The evidence is being introduced as the prosecution builds its case against Besigye and Lutale on treason-related charges.

Nile Post reports that on Monday prosecutors also played three videos said to have been recorded in Geneva, Switzerland. British national Andrew Wilson, the first prosecution witness, identified people seen in the footage, including Besigye and another associate, Joel Wakayima. In parts of the videos, Wilson’s own back appears to block much of the frame, though there is a brief moment where another person passes through the shot.

Wilson is expected to present more recordings linked by the prosecution to meetings in other locations, including Athens and Nairobi. The hearing underscores how digital evidence is becoming central to the case while technical issues continue to affect how it is examined in court.
