What the report says

9to5Mac reports that Apple’s iOS 27 update adds several Messages features alongside changes to other built-in apps such as Wallet, Calendar, Music and Maps. In a July 23 article, Ryan Christoffel highlighted Apple Intelligence-powered “one-tap suggestions” that surface actions or content based on a conversation, including prompts to create a reminder or note, or to locate relevant photos from a user’s library using details such as people, places or keywords.

The report says Messages also gains a new “Drawing” iMessage app with familiar Markup-style tools for quickly sending sketches. 9to5Mac frames the addition in the context of signs it sees pointing to a possible foldable “iPhone Ultra,” while noting the feature can be used on any iPhone. The article does not confirm whether a future device would support Apple Pencil.

iOS 27 also improves RCS messaging, according to 9to5Mac. Users will be able to reply inline to RCS messages, and Tapback reactions should appear properly for Android recipients rather than being converted into descriptive text. The report notes that the broader RCS 2.7 standard includes editing and unsending messages, but says those capabilities may arrive in iOS 27 or a later update rather than confirming availability now.

Other reported changes include an option to remove or change the audio button in the text field, grouped alerts for multiple Tapbacks, Smart Reply suggestions shaped by a user’s writing style, and automatic blocking of violent or gore-related shared media for child accounts. Apple is also said to be improving reliability and speed, including message retries, faster loading and syncing, better handling of offloaded media, continuous sending of mixed content, and search by phone number or nickname.
